Below we explain in detail how dental treatment under general anesthesia works at our clinic: when we recommend it, what exactly happens, what steps follow one another, and how much it all costs. Our aim is for you to have all the important information before you decide, and to know exactly what to expect.
We kindly draw your attention to the fact that this general, preliminary information is not exhaustive and does not replace the individually tailored medical information provided in a personal consultation with a specialist physician!
The majority of dental treatments can be carried out safely and painlessly while the patient is awake. General anesthesia or sedation is not a better solution, but an additional option for those for whom treatment while awake is difficult to carry out.
We recommend it primarily if, for example, you are very anxious about dental treatment or have had a bad experience in the past; if you are difficult to treat while awake because of a heightened gag reflex or another anatomical feature; if a family member who has special educational needs, autism or an intellectual disability needs dental treatment; or if, given the extent and time requirement of the planned procedure, treatment in one longer, continuous session is justified.
Because every anesthesia carries risk, the decision can only be made on the basis of individual assessment, following a detailed and thorough consultation, in agreement with you.

Both anesthesia and sedation are administered by a qualified specialist anesthesiologist with the assistance of a specialist anesthesia assistant, with continuous monitoring throughout the entire procedure.
In practice, you may encounter two forms. One is intravenous anesthesia or sedation on its own; the other is intravenous anesthesia supplemented with airway management, that is, intubation. Which one is appropriate in your case is always decided jointly by the dentist and the specialist anesthesiologist after individual assessment, primarily on the basis of the type and expected duration of the planned procedure and your condition.
In both cases you will be in a deep, sleep-like state, so you will not feel anything of the treatment and will not remember it afterwards.
Consultation and anesthesia medical history
At the consultation you complete a special anesthesia medical history questionnaire, on the basis of which the specialist anesthesiologist assesses whether the anesthesia can be carried out safely.
Individually tailored examination
The range of preliminary examinations required is always determined individually. In most cases laboratory tests are required, but other examinations, such as an ECG, are ordered by the specialist anesthesiologist if they consider it justified.
The day of the anesthesia
The anesthesia is administered by our specialist anesthesiologist; alongside this, the dentist also administers a local anesthetic to the area of the procedure, but all of this takes place while you are already under anesthesia.
Observation after the procedure
At our clinic, a short observation period is required after the anesthetic treatment has finished, because our professionals always make sure that, after waking up, your body has returned to normal functioning. After that, you may leave the clinic accompanied by another person.
You must not eat or drink in the 6 hours before the procedure, but drinking plenty of fluids beforehand is recommended.
It is extremely important that you inform us in advance about any medication you take regularly. Based on the information you provide, the anesthesiologist will give individual instructions on which medication to take, and in what dose, on the day of the procedure.
After the procedure, a short period of observation is required at our clinic, after which you may leave only in the presence of an accompanying person. Driving a vehicle is prohibited on the same day, and heavy physical work is not recommended. You may drink fluids gradually and carefully; eating is recommended once the numbness has worn off.
The fees for the services provided by our dental clinic are set out in the price list in force at any given time, which is available both at the clinic and on our website and can be reviewed in advance. The fee for anesthesia and sedation is currently a uniform HUF 159,000 for each hour begun. The price of the dental and other necessary treatment performed is added to this as a separate item, according to the dental clinic’s price list in force at the time. The prices are indicative.
How long the anesthesia lasts is determined in every case by the nature of the dental procedure and the individual condition of the patient, but naturally the exact duration cannot be determined with certainty in advance, as many circumstances may affect the treatment while it is under way. Below we give two examples to make the fees easier to understand:
A simpler procedure, for example a tooth extraction (tooth removal) without complications or unexpected events, can typically be completed within one hour. In this case the anesthesia fee is HUF 159,000, plus the price of the extraction and any other treatment performed.
A more complex case, for example several tooth extractions combined with dental implant placement, may take as long as two to three hours. In this case the anesthesia fee is HUF 318,000 or HUF 477,000, plus the price of the treatments performed.
We would like to draw your particular attention to the fact that an initial assessment is always required before a procedure under anesthesia, which includes a dental examination, a panoramic X-ray and a scan; its fee is currently HUF 35,000. Depending on the planned procedure, a CT scan may also be necessary; its fee is a separate item according to the current price list.
We always determine the expected duration, and thus the final price associated with it, at the consultation, on the basis of your treatment plan. Naturally, the fee for any additional time caused by complications or unexpected events, and for any additional treatment that becomes necessary as a result, is settled afterwards, in agreement with you.
We have extensive experience in the care of children, people with autism and other adult patients with special needs, on both the dental and the anesthesiology side. In these cases anesthesia often makes it possible for us to carry out the necessary treatments safely and without trauma. Please note that in these cases too, a responsible decision can only be made after medical information based on an individual, personal consultation with a specialist physician.
What one of our patients says about treatment under anesthesia:
“We wholeheartedly recommend Trendo Dental and are deeply grateful to the whole team! ❤️
My older sister and I would like to express our endless gratitude for the great deal of kindness, patience, humanity and attention we received during the treatment of our younger sister.
We are particularly grateful to Dr. Bukovszky Botond for his conscientious work, endless patience, kindness, and the exemplary humanity with which he turned to our sister and our family. His attentiveness, helpfulness and care meant a great deal to us.
We also sincerely thank Dr. Gellérd Emese, anesthesiologist, for her conscientious work, kindness, patience and loving care. It was a great relief for us that we could entrust Babuci to such an attentive and caring professional. Babuci, our 36-year-old sister, requires special care, does not speak, and is very afraid of doctors. Unfortunately, her teeth had deteriorated so badly that all of them had to be removed under anesthesia. We worried about her a great deal and searched for a long time for a place where we could know her to be in truly good hands.
Today we can say with all our hearts that we chose the best possible place!
From the very first contact we experienced extraordinary kindness, patience and helpfulness from the whole team. The clinic is beautiful, modern and welcoming, and while we waited we could even play with Babuci on the game machine that had been set up. ❤️
After the procedure, too, when she woke up, they looked after her with the same love and care. We are particularly grateful that the whole team treated our sister so understandingly and attentively.
For us this was much more than a dental treatment. When you entrust your most cherished family member to the care of others, it is an invaluable feeling to encounter such humanity.
My older sister and I will never forget what you did for Babuci!
Hats off to you! ❤️ If only patients were treated with such love and attention everywhere!
With grateful hearts we thank you for everything, and we wholeheartedly recommend Trendo Dental!
With love and gratitude:
Babuci’s sisters ❤️ ”
No. Under anesthesia you do not feel anything of the treatment, and you will not remember it afterwards. We also use local anesthesia for the procedures during anesthesia.
This is always weighed up by the dentist and the specialist anesthesiologist on the basis of your condition and the planned procedure, and of course we make the decision together, with your involvement.
This is assessed individually by the specialist anesthesiologist, on the basis of your health condition and underlying diseases, taking into account the content of the anesthesia medical history form you completed during the consultation.
This varies from person to person and depends largely on the type of treatment, so we cannot give a general duration. After the procedure a short period of observation is needed, during which our professionals make sure that your body has returned to normal functioning; after that you may leave accompanied by another person. On the day of the procedure you must not drive, and heavy physical work is not recommended either. You can read about what to do next in the “What happens after the procedure?” section.
